Tennis Team Shines At Cascade Christian

The 2016 Pilot tennis team took on Cascade Christian High School (Medford) and walked away with six wins in the round-robin “friendly” match. Winners for the CCA tennis squad at the April 6 competition included Davy Kayinamura, Simon Mao, Hayden Lui, Brian Ng, Benson Lin, Eun Jin Jang, and Leydy Garcia.

Soccer Team Gets First Loss

St. Mary’s of Medford proved to be a brick wall for the Pilots soccer team as the Canyonville Christian Academy boys fell be an 8-0 score Sept. 19.  This away game was the first loss of the season for 2-1-1 for the soccer team.  Head coach for the boys’ team is Eric Payne.

Sung An Hwang ’08 Graduates From Penn State

Sung An Hwang from class of ’08 graduated from Penn State on May 9th, 2015.  Sung An has a degree in Info Science & Technology, and plans to continue on to Grad school. During his transition, Sung An has traveled back home to South Korea to enjoy some time with family and friends. Congratulations Sung Ah!

Shirley Cordray Vierra ’51

Shirley Cordray Vierra ’51 passed away May 27, 2014.  She was married to her husband Gerald for over 50 years and they made their home in Flagstaff, Arizona.


First place out of more than 300 entries from Oregon high schools went to Mignonne in the spring statewide investing competition. Canyonville Christian Academy entrants Grace Tuan and Luigi Van Mol also brought home the next two places.  Awards will be presented to the winners at a Portland banquet in May.


Ivan Sandrali was selected by the basketball coaches of the Mountain View 2A Conference to the first team all-star squad for 2014-15.  He was also named to the all-league defensive team. Canyonville Christian Academy‘s boys’ varsity team made a good run at the Lost River’s Raiders in a 2A league basketball match-up on February 6. Final score was 42-38.  The boys will have opportunity to reverse things when they play the Raiders on Senior Night February 17 on CCA’s home court.

Ivan Sandrali Named “Athlete of the Week”

The “Douglas County Mail” newspaper selected Canyonville Christian Academy’s  standout basketball player Ivan Sandrali as their top south county  athlete for  January week number three. Sandrali, a senior forward for the Pilots, is averaging  16.7 points and 10.2 rebounds per game.

Don and Helen Bass 1965-6 (staff)

After teaching at CCA, Don went on to earn a doctorate and spent a career teaching in college and directing Christian schools. After “retiring” they spent seven years in the Muslin countries of Turkey and Yemen involved in Missionary work.  They now make their home in Texas where they are ministering to those in need.

Adah Hixson Averyt ’45 passed away February 3, 2012.  In recent years, she made her home in Dewey, Arizona.

Jeremy Johnson ’95 is scheduled to compete in this year’s Boston Marathon on April 16. Jeremy, who now lives in New York City, was a cross country runner during his CCA years.

Larry Haymes of the class ’61 spent six weeks traveling & preaching in Kenya, Africa in the summer of 2011.  He s now involved in helping to plant a church in Houston, Texas.

Elizabeth (Howell) Phillips ’45

Cross Country Outing

CCA’s cross country runners traveled to Corvallis to attend an NCAA Division I football Game between Oregon State and UCLA on September 24th. The PAC-12 contest was won by UCLA before a crowd of 44,000.

Seminar Trip

Seminar class began their 2011-2012 schedule of events with a September 10th trip to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. The students enjoyed Gilbert & Sullivan’s classic Operetta “The Pirates of Penzance”.

Canyonville Christian Academy’s Library Nears 10,000 Volumes

A preliminary count of the books in the school library indicates we are approaching the 10,000 volume level – an exceptional collection for a high school. Also, through interlibrary loan and the local public library located just a block from campus, CCA’s students and teachers have access to virtually all books in print.

CCA’s Tennis Squad – Very Competitive!

Four New Computers In School Library!

In recent days the alumni association has donated four new computers for student use in the school library.  These computers have internet access and are a great improvement over the units they replace.
